Davis® Program Details

The first step is an Initial Consultation

[Check-list for Symptoms Profile]

At the initial consultation, an informal assessment will determine if the Davis® Program is a suitable solution for the client’s learning difficulties and goals. Call (973) 746-5037 or email lynn@dyslexianj.com to set up an initial consultation.

The Program

The Davis® Dyslexia Correction Program is a 30 hour one week program facilitated one-on-one with clients ages 8 and up. This creative program is DESIGNED for the learning style of the visual-spatial person. The Davis methods get to the root cause of the learning difficulty and correct it using the natural strengths and talents of the individual's learning style. Clients will learn HOW THEY LEARN and leave with life-changing skills they can implement into daily life.

"I feel more focused and I can pay attention better… words don't run off the page, or get blurry."

- Brian, age 15

Program Prerequisites

For the Davis Program to be effective, a person must be personally motivated and willing to improve, or change some aspect of their learning, behavior, or school performance. A formal diagnosis of a learning disability is NOT necessary.

All Davis Programs are DRUG FREE solutions. Therefore, before a program can be scheduled, clients must disclose all medications. If you have any questions about these requirements, please call (973) 746-5037 or email lynn@dyslexianj.com.

"Our daughter has not been on the medication since the weeks before her program with you! Although she still needs reminding, the tools have helped her to stay focused and not get so easily frustrated. She is getting her work done on her own and her self-esteem has definitely soared! We can't thank you enough for all you've done for us…"

- Parent of a 12 year-old New Perspectives in Learning client

After the Program

[Client Kit]

The client will leave the program with all of the tools, understanding, and materials necessary to implement the program into every day life and achieve positive results. Davis Symbol Mastery® of 219 “trigger words” (those words that do not have a visual image) is an essential part of the correction of Dyslexia. Support training is provided on the last day of the program for family members, tutor(s), and/or teacher(s) who will support the client in this follow up.

Davis Symbol Mastery®

Davis Symbol Mastery of the word [on]

Symbol Mastery provides clients with the ability to understand abstract words and gives them a picture with which they can think!

Here, a New Perspectives in Learning client has modeled the definition for the word on, a preposition meaning: held up by or attached to [I am on my surfboard].

The Davis Symbol Mastery® techniques are a creative and fun way to eliminate confusion with these abstract and frequently misused words.

Overview of the Davis® Programs

Davis® Orientation Counseling, as outlined in The Gift of Dyslexia by Ronald D. Davis, provides clients with the ability to detect and self-correct distorted perception caused by confusion with letters, words, numerals, and other symbols.

Working with clay allows for confusion to be recognized and resolved — in a multi-dimensional, creative way that fits the dyslexic thinking and learning style.

Clients start by resolving confusion with the basic literacy symbols, including letters (above) and punctuation marks.

Clients then work with clay to master words that do not give them a picture. We call these "trigger words" and there are 219 words identified by Davis that need to be mastered. Most of these words will be done at home after the program.

New Perspectives in Learning also offers the Davis Math Mastery® Program and the Davis® Attention Mastery Program for ADD/ADHD. These programs alone may run longer than the typical 5-days (possibly 8) unless a Davis® Dyslexia Correction Program has been completed prior.

Information about the concepts covered in the Math and Attention Mastery programs can be found in the book, The Gift of Learning, by Ronald D. Davis

For younger clients (ages 5-7), New Perspectives in Learning also offers the Davis® Reading Program for Young Learners.
